The General Authority for Statistics has released new data revealing an increase in the unemployment rate among Saudis in the second quarter of the current year to 15.4%, compared to 11.8% in the first quarter. This increase is confirmed as foreign workers continue to leave the kingdom.
The total unemployment rate between Saudis and foreigners rose to 9% from 5.7% in the first quarter. The local market has been impacted by the Covid-19 crisis and the suspension of several activities due to general sanitary containment.
In addition, the number of workers reached 13.63 million, including 10.46 million foreigners (76.7%) and 3.17 million Saudis (23.3%).
Official statistics revealed that 445,000 foreign workers left the kingdom in 2019, after the departure of one million migrants in 2018. Since 2017 and until last December, two million foreigners have left Saudi Arabia.
