The Moroccan Association of Pilots denounced the wave of layoffs that affected a number of their colleagues working for the Royal Air Maroc company, describing it as a campaign to settle accounts under the cover of the emerging Coronavirus crisis.
This comes after the failure of negotiations between the company’s management and the Pilots Association to reduce their salaries by 45 % over five years.
The company said that the first layoff process was voluntary, as they approached the retirement age, which enabled the layoffs of 140 employees, including 30 pilots.
It is noteworthy that Royal Air Maroc is facing a stifling economic crisis following the Coronavirus pandemic, which forced it to adopt an austerity plan to deal with the crisis.
