Last Wednesday, the General Federation of Jordan Trade Unions sent a letter to the Minister of Labor, calling for a review of the classification of the most affected sectors, before the issuance of the new communication that regulates the wages of September and October.
The letter indicated that the wages of workers in the private sector and thereof the amount of the reduction during the previous period, was according to press release issued based on Defense Order No. 6, and this was related to the classification of economic sectors. The letter also indicated that with the end of the wage regulation period and the reduction mechanism, a new press release is expected to be issued to regulate wages, for the next two months, as well as a decision to reclassify the sectors most affected.
With regard to the private education sector, the president of the union, Mazen Maaytah, who is the president of the General Syndicate for Private Education Workers, confirmed that there is no longer a practical justification for considering it one of the sectors most affected, as the educational process was organized and students and teachers joined their schools normally, except for a very limited number of schools where some Coronavirus cases appeared, according to what was stated in the written address.
Minister of Labor, Nidal Al-Batayneh, had recently confirmed, in televised statements, the issuance of a new notice regulating the wages for the months of September and October.
