Lebanon: FENASOL Evaluates the Results of the Crisis Cell’s Actions to Help those Affected by the Beirut Explosion

The Executive Office of the National Federation of Trade Unions and Employees in Lebanon (FENASOL) and the Crisis Cell held a meeting headed by President of the Federation Castro Abdullah.

The meeting discussed “the tasks that were carried out in terms of helping the victims and workers affected as a result of the catastrophic explosion in Beirut port within the capabilities available to the National Union, in cooperation and coordination with Arab trade union federations and with all the social and humanitarian groups that could help”.

The meeting tackled “the tasks that are required to be carried out in order to complete the crisis cell’ plan which it put in place immediately after the explosion on August 4, 2020”.

The same meeting in question also discussed the difficult living situation that workers and other population groups suffer from in light of the economic collapse, the national currency’s loss of its purchasing power, the manipulation of prices without any control or oversight, and the political class’s inability to find solutions for the socio-economic crisis.

At the end of the meeting, the Crisis Cell and the leadership of the National Union decided to “keep its meetings open to keep pace with all developments in Lebanon.”
