Jordan: Workers Union Criticizes the Draft of Agricultural Workers Regulations

The General Federation of Jordan Trade Unions stated that the draft of agricultural workers system, which was presented by the Legislation and Opinion Bureau at the end of last week, for comments and notes, needs to be developed and improved in order to meet many aspects and issues that concern workers in the agricultural sector, as well as what is related to working conditions in this sector

The President of the General Union, Mazen Maaytah, confirmed, in a press statement on Sunday, that the current form of the presented draft needs to be reviewed and discussed. The aim should be coming up with a system that addresses the many imbalances that the work environment suffers from in the sector, in addition to ensuring labor rights and decent work standards for its workers.

The General Federation of Jordan Trade Unions recently held a meeting for the executive team of the project “promoting decent work in the agricultural sector in Jordan”, with the support of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the participation of labor advisors, and it was devoted to discussing the draft agricultural workers system.

The meeting concluded with a set of notes on the draft clauses, related to work contracts in agricultural work, wages, decent housing, transportation and transportation, nurseries for the children of female workers, as well as union organizing and ensuring the right to collective bargaining for workers.
