Jordanian police have arrested a number of male and female teachers who tried to carry out a sit-in I the surroundings of the fourth circle near the Prime Ministry building, in protest against the judicial measures taken against their unions, specifically closing their headquarters.
In anticipation of the teachers’ arrival in the fourth circle of Smishani, the security forces completely closed down the fourth circle and issued directives to the administrative rulers and public security to implement the defense orders issued by the Prime Minister. These orders relate to preventing gatherings in the different regions of the Kingdom as part of the precautious measures against COVID-19.
Teachers had called for a sit-in in front of the Prime Ministry on Wednesday in protest against the measures taken against their union and the arrest of members of the Bar Council.
Sources confirmed that the mediation efforts carried out by the Professional Associations Council with the Prime Minister were unsuccessful as the government conditioned its cooperation to the need to obtain guarantees that the school year would proceed without strikes from teachers.
It is noteworthy that the intense police handling to break up the aforementioned sit-in have left a deep popular resentment and great sympathy for the majority of teachers.
