The Italian Ministry of Interior has announced the intention of the Italian authorities to expel the irregular migrants who arrived on Italian soil during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We guarantee the protection of the health of the local population, but migrants who came for economic reasons know that there is no opportunity to legalize the status of those who arrived to Italy after the March 8, explaining that all illegal migrants will be subjected to COVD-19 testing”, according to Italian Interior Minister Luchana Lamorghese.
This statement comes Italian officials have registered a significant increase in the number of illegal migrants, especially on the island of Lampedusa, which have reached about 250 people during the past few days.
