Morocco: Social Dialogue Session With No Results to Mention

The social dialogue session that took place yesterday between the government, unions and employers did not witness any significant results.

After a three-hour meeting, the participants held their positions regarding the increase in wages during the pandemic period and downloaded all the contents of the April 25 agreement.

During the past few days, the Moroccan Prime Minister held meetings with the General Union for Moroccan Contracting Work and the most representative union centers to better prepare for the tripartite social dialogue round seeking to consider the economic and social repercussions of the Coronavirus outbreak.

It seems that this first meeting was to put forward initial ideas regarding the sticking points between the three parties, which explains why everyone holds the same positions amid calls for the continuation of the dialogue until a solution is reached.

However, what attracted attention is the request of the Moroccan Contracting Association to postpone the increases in wages under the pretext of the repercussions of the pandemic on the institutions, which was rejected by the unions and considered it an application not based on any study or clear indicators.

The meeting ended with an agreement to hold a new round of discussions within next week.
