President of the Truck Owners Syndicate said in a statement to a Jordanian news website that hundreds of workers in customs clearance, trucking, handling and support services companies face the risk of losing their jobs following the government’s announcement to stop allowing the entrance of Syrian trucks.
He added that transferring the exchange of transport from Jaber Customs to Al-Omari Customs will result in the expulsion of the transit traders because of the high cost that will be paid by the trucks as they pass through Jordanian territory.
He also indicated that these measures will result in losses estimated at millions, in addition to the affected sectors of services / clearance, trucks and handling, support services and others, as well as cutting out hundreds of workers operating in Jaber Customs.
He pointed out as well that during the past two days, a large number of trucks were retrieved because of their high cost if they go through Jordanian territory, as they will be shipped by sea, which will lead to dispensing of their crossing through Jordanian territory.
The Captain of the Truck Owners Association asked the concerned authorities to intervene to allow exchange work in the Jaber Customs Center as it was before, in addition to cancelling the request for a traffic permit by the Ministry of Agriculture regarding vegetables and fruits.
