Workers of Tartous Port in Syria said that they refused to receive their salaries from the Russian company operating the port, for the current month of July, due to the lack of a “receipt” for every worker’s salary since the Russian company took over the port.
Workers complained that the Russian operator of the port had breached the contracts signed with them on more than one level since taking over the port’s management, which led them to refuse to receive their salaries at the beginning of July.
Workers indicated that the operating company does not give the workers a receipt for their salaries, as it does not give the converted wages to the workers, and reduced the value of the meal from 700 Syrian pounds to 100, in addition to depriving some of the workers of this meal, according to what was reported by the newspaper “Al-Watan”, a news outlet close to the Syrian regime.
It is noteworthy that the Syrian People’s Assembly approved, on June 12, the draft law that includes leasing Tartous Port to Russia for a period of 49 years.
The protocol includes the management of the civil division at Tartous Port by the Russian company STG Engineering, after completing the contract in April 2019.
