Jordan: Workers’ Union Demands Government to Issue a New Statement Regulating Wages

The General Confederation of Jordan Trade Unions called on the government to issue a new statement regulating workers’ wages for the current month and the upcoming ones, providing the necessary protection for workers and protecting their wages from the deductions mentioned in Defense Order No. (6) and other statements issued in its application.

President of the Confederation, Mazen Al-Maaitah, stated in a press statement on Tuesday, that the return of economic activities, the lifting of the ban on various sectors and the regular exercise of their activities, requires a new arrangement for the issue of wages and ensuring that they are not subjected to deduction in protection of workers’ rights and to preserve their social and living security.

Al-Maaitah indicated that the Confederation had monitored many labor complaints in economic establishments, companies and institutions, especially with regard to wages and financial earnings of workers, which harms them.

Al-Maaitah also added that “There is an urgent need to issue a new communication that includes the legal tools necessary to protect workers’ rights and not cause any deflection to it in matters relating to wages”.
