The General Confederation of Trade Unions of Jordan announced on its official page that it had achieved, in its current session, more than 343 million Jordanian dinars from benefits which more than three million workers and employees have benefited from, so that each worker could benefit from several agreements in the same facility.
The Confederation announced that these achievements are the result of 345 collective work agreements signed by unions with employers.
On the other hand, the General Syndicate of Workers in Public Services and Free Professions of the General Confederation of Trade Unions of Jordan demanded hotels owned by the Social Security Corporation to rectify what it considered to be an explicit violation.
The violation related to the June salaries where hotel workers only received 50% of its value.
In an official letter addressed last monday by the Syndicate to the Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Director General of the National Company for Tourism Development , the hotel departments only spent 50% of the workers’ wages from their basic salaries, not of the total, in accordance to announcement No. (7) of the defense order (6).
The announcement noted that the salaries of the past months of April and May were spent after calculating the total salaries subject to guarantee, according to Defense Order No. (9).
The address also stated that “this measure is an explicit violation of what came in the issued defense orders regarding workers’ wages which are currently in force are considered a violation of Jordanian labor law.”
“Therefore, it is necessary to correct this violation with regards to the disbursement of the salaries of the month of June, and the payment of the salaries of next July in total amounts subject to social security deduction”, added the Confederation in its address.
The same letter also pointed out to the need to improve the living conditions of hotel employees and try to survey the negative impact that the Coronavirus pandemic has caused on the economic and social level for workers and employers alike.
Lats, the Confederation also underlined the hotels that are perpetrating these violations which are: Crown Plaza Amman, Crown Plaza Dead Sea, Crown Plaza Petra, Holiday Inn Dead Sea, Intercontinental Aqaba.
