Sweden: Government Seeking to Increase Taxes on Migrant Workers

Radio Sweden reported that the Swedish government is preparing to tighten the tax system for foreign workers in the country, as well as the companies that employ them.

According to the Left Party spokesman, foreign companies that employ migrant workers must pay additional taxes, as well as these workers.

Under the proposal to tighten taxes, foreign companies that do not have headquarters in Sweden and employ migrant workers, for example, to build for short periods of up to six months, will be obliged to pay taxes from the first day that work begins.

Currently, foreign companies are not required to pay taxes on employees for an interim period of less than six months in Sweden.

It is estimated that this will include tens of thousands of people, as companies that hire them will have to deduct taxes and pay to the Swedish Tax Authority, the total is expected to reach about 600 million as an annual increase in tax revenue.

The Swedish government will present its decision to put this proposal before parliament, so that the decision could enter into force on January 1 of next year.
