Palestine: Fears of Virus Outbreak … Gunfire Against Workers and Delay in the Payment of Salaries

The Palestinian Minister of Labor stressed in a radio interview on the need to adhere to the decision of the Palestinian authorities to prohibit work in settlements altogether, noting that the ministry is in extensive contact with workers inside the Green Line to urge them to adhere to preventive measures and public safety and commitment to work inside the facilities and avoid contact.

As for the intensity of Coronavirus infections in Hebron and Nablus, the minister explained that the matter has nothing to do with workers but rather is due to visits between residents within the territories of the Green Line, adding that 85% of workers inside the Green Line work inside the establishments and they are the least contact with the people there.

The atmosphere of anxiety over the spread of the Coronavirus did not prevent the occupation forces from launching a campaign of raids and seazing of the homes of citizens in the occupied West Bank as well as shootings against workers at the Taybeh crossing and the arrest of 3 young men at the Beit El checkpoint north of Ramallah.

Palestinian Authority is facing major financial difficulties, as confirmed by the government spokesman’s statement, who apologized to all employees for the delay in salaries payment while committing to paying them as soon as possible, according to what is available.
