Nurses working at the Orange Nassau Governmental Hospital carried out a sit-in in front of the hospital entrance, protesting against the non-payment of their salaries for more than two months, and demanded the speedy release of their dues and recognition of their role while they are at the forefront of the confrontation with the Coronavirus pandemic.
One of the workers’ representatives stated that the workers had not received their salaries for more than two months, blaming the cabinet for the urgent payment of financial contributions to hospitals in order to be able to secure their needs, especially after the deterioration of the national currency.
The representative saluted the efforts of workers in public hospitals, raising questions their share of donations made in their support.
There have been frequent cases of withholding wages or delaying their payment in Lebanon since the outbreak of the popular protests before the pandemic, to exacerbate the situation in a period in which Lebanon is experiencing an economic crisis that most experts agreed is the worst in the country’s history.
