Tunisia: To Reduce Unemployment Rates, Automatic Employment for Those Who Have Been Unemployed for More Than Ten Years

Tunisian Parliament’s Youth, Cultural Affairs and Education Committee affirmed that there is a complete consensus on a draft law that ensures the employment of graduates with degrees above 10 years old.

The committee considered that the draft law represents an effective mechanism for starting to solve the problem of unemployment among this group of unemployed people and that the draft law was circulated in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Vocational Training and Employment in addition to consulting the Minister of State in charge of the public employment.

Chairman of the Committee stated that the priority in the assignment will take into account the year of obtaining the certificate and the age of its holder, in addition to considering those with special needs and the social status of the family concerned with the assignment.

It is worth mentioning that the Tunisian government has repeatedly mentioned the freezing of employment in the public sector because of the financial difficulties the country is experiencing, which was reiterated through the Prime Minister’s recent statement concerning the possibility of reducing employees’ salaries and freezing automated promotions.
