Morocco: Quarantine Discussed by the Government and Unions

After meeting with the Employers Organization to consult on measures to lift the general quarantine, Prime Minister Saad Eddine El-Othmani met with the major unions in Morocco to listen to their vision concerning the lifting of quarantine.

The views of the participating trade unions were divided between the necessity of providing all health conditions for safety in all productive facilities and the return of most expelled workers, and the establishment of a social vigilance committee with the participation of trade unions to monitor the proper implementation of all preventive measures and follow-up on the files of expelled workers.

Unions also stressed the need to respect the wage scale and not to prejudice it, warning to take into account this issue during the preparation of the state budget for the coming year.

It was reported that this meeting was postponed following the death of the former prime minister and the Moroccan social figure, “Abd al-Rahman al-Yousifi”. The late Yousifi was known for his close proximity to impoverished workers.
