Jordan: A Study Reveals the Initial “Cost” of Coronavirus on Workers

The Phoenix Center for Economic and Informatics Studies has published a survey study on workers’ groups affected by the repercussions of the Coronavirus crisis. The study indicated that 40 % of its subscribers had completely lost their jobs during the period between mid-March and mid-May 2020

 

Moreover, 37 % of subscribers partially lost their jobs, while 23 % of the subscribers’ jobs were not affected. The large majority of those whose jobs were not affected were workers in the Jordanian public sector.

The Study also indicated that 36 % of the participants from workers in the private sector completely stopped their work or jobs, and 45 % of them indicated that their work or jobs were partially stopped.

 

57 % of self-employed workers have completely stopped work, and 29 % have partially stopped their work, according to the same study.

The study also indicated that 7.9 % of the respondents said that they were permanently dismissed from their work. In addition to that, 4.8 % reported that they were temporarily dismissed from their work, while 3.7 % of the respondents were forced to take unpaid leaves, and 1 % of respondents were forced to take annual leave.
