Lebanon: Exceptional Flights to Evacuate Migrant Workers

Lebanese authorities announced that the evacuation flights for migrants wishing to leave Lebanon will begin on May 20 from Beirut airport.

Lebanese authorities have previously asked those wishing to leave the country to deposit their demands to their countries’ embassies and consulates in Lebanon to determine their number and the necessary trips to evacuate them.

Lebanon have also announced that the first flights would be for the benefit of Egyptian and Ethiopian immigrants, after fulfilling all departure demands and according to an agreement coordinating the evacuation process with their countries.

Lebanese authorities have given as well way to those who have failed to deposit their demands to do so as soon as possible, provided that their flight times are announced consecutively.

It is important to note that Lebanon is going through an acute economic and financial crisis that has been worsened by the impact of the Coronavirus crisis, and which has caused the loss of jobs for thousands of foreign domestic workers after the failure of their employers to fulfill their monthly financial obligations towards them.
