The National Syndicate of Education, which is under the banner of the Moroccan Labor Union, affirmed that it intends to confront any attempt to take advantage of this circumstance to eliminate the gains of the working class, stressing the necessity of withdrawing government accord No. 3/2020, and “enabling teachers and education personnel of promotion benefits without delay, with attempts to find urgent and fair solutions to their demands, and to consider the current circumstance as a moment of motivation and appreciation for efforts instead of causing frustration or discouragement for resolve by unilateral and discriminatory decisions that undermine collective exerted efforts.”
In its May 1st statement, the National Syndicate highlighted that workers in the education sector are living up to this moment of national solidarity, and they are doing their best to enable students to pursue their academic learning from a distance, and to contain the effects of the sudden cessation of attendance teaching during this difficult circumstance.
The statement also denoted the efforts of the educational, administrative and educational staff and their sacrifices, as well as the dedication of all the resisting groups in the front rows against the epidemiological situation namely the medical and nursing staff and all those who provide peace and security for the basic services of citizens.
The Syndicate also spoke of the need to consider Workers’ Day as a day “to call for the continuation of comprehensive national mobilization to confront the Corona pandemic and its repercussions, and to express adherence to the just and legitimate demands of all educational groups and protect their rights and gains.”
“Let us make May 1st, 2020 an occasion to stand, from under quarantine”, they added.
“Let us stand on this great national odyssey, which embodied the educational family unity with the working class segments and all components of Moroccan society and its institutions in confronting this global pandemic, and for inspiration through it in facing the challenges of the future, and anticipating the horizons of our struggle for a generous public education and universities, that is free, modern, unified and good, achieving the demands of all educational groups and safeguarding their gains, and issuing a new unified statute for all workers in the education sector that is fair, equitable and motivating to them”, continued the Syndicate in its statement.
