The COVID-19 crisis has revealed the lack of minimum labor legislations in most Arab countries for the protection of workers during pandemics.
Through an inventory about the Arab countries that have ratified the Convention number 155 related to occupational health and safety, we found out that only three countries have ratified this agreement, namely Algeria in 2006 and Bahrain and Syria in 2009.

The mentioned clause specifically stipulates that “protection is guaranteed for any worker who withdraws from a work site and who is believed to possibly constitute a imminent and serious threat to his life or health, which could result in his withdrawal due to such the consequences, and according to the situation and national procedure”.
Article III of Part IV of this agreement also stipulates that employers must “provide adequate protective clothing and equipment, in feasible and reasonable manners, so that it becomes possible to avoid the risk of accidents or harmful health impacts”.
