Despite the Jordanian Ministry of Labor affirming the suspension of receiving requests to reduce wages after the resumption of activities in the majority of economic sectors to advance its productive activity.
Abuses have been recorded in a number of institutions that initiated the deduction of half of the wages of their workers despite their return to work.
The Minister of Labor had confirmed in a press statement issued recently, that in light of the government’s decision to allow institutions in various economic sectors to work at full production capacity, the ministry will stop receiving any new requests to reduce wages or suspend or consider them except for economic sectors that were not allowed to resume onsite work.
Commenting on the frequency of complaints of workers affected by the wages reduction, Hamada Abu Najma, an expert in professional relations, stressed that “legally and logically, and according to the defence order, any approval is null for the subsequent period as long as the government has allowed the institution to work at full capacity”.
Abu Najma also noted that the stipulations of the ministry’s decision stressed that institutions that resume onsite work need to return to full payment of wages.
