Celebrations of the International Day of Workers in Morocco are an Arab and international exception, since the Moroccan trade unions maintained a tradition of mobilizing workers and occupying streets and public squares every May 1 of each year to collectively celebrate the International Labor Day, open speech platforms and renew their demands.
Under the current circumstance of the public quarantine caused by the Corona pandemic, Moroccan unions found themselves forced this year to celebrate it by default, recruited its youth and employees to sweep all social media, and devoted electronic platforms to cover their virtual celebrations that were not as usual. Celebrations this year were through online speeches, broadcasting documentaries and holding webinars.
The Moroccan Labor Union chose the slogan “Solidarity to Breakout of the Crisis” as the title of its celebrations this year, and the General Union of Workers chose the slogan “Let’s stay united”.
The Democratic Confederation of Labor chose the slogan “Rebuilding the social state to face future crisis and shocks.”
In contrast to its slogans, the various Moroccan unions unanimously agreed on the value of solidarity and the need to consider human service as the basis of all future development policies.
