ILO: Losing Income Means ‘No food, No security, No future’

“With the development of the pandemic situation and the job crisis, the need to protect the most vulnerable groups becomes even more urgent. For millions of workers, losing income means: no food, no security, no future.”

With these words, Guy Rider Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO) stated in his presentation of the third edition of the ILO Observatory: COVID-19 and the world of work.

Through the summary published on the website of the ILO, the latter warned of the continuing decline in working hours in the world due to the pandemic, which means exposing the livelihoods of nearly half of the world’s workforce to the risk of the end.

Confirming the above, it was estimated that last March witnessed a 60 % decrease in the income of the informal sector in both the global North and South countries. This percentage reached 81 % in Africa, North and South America, 21.6 % in Asia and the Pacific and 70 % In Europe and Central Asia.
