Dozens of workers at the Chinese company, Petro China decided to go into an open sit-in starting last Sunday to demand their reaffection after the company’s management had decided to dismiss them from work.
The workers set up tents in front of the company’s headquarters, located in the Al-Kahla area in the Iraqi Maysan governorate, to protest their dismissal which was neither explained nor discussed with their respective representatives.
Petro China has been witnessing a contentious social atmosphere due to the multiple violations committed by its management against the workers and its lack of respect for any dialogue approach in a period in which Iraq lives an acute economic and social crisis that caused the outbreak of many youth protests and resulted in dozens of victims.
