Mauritania: Trade Union Coordination of Mauritanian Workers Agree on Four Common Axes

In conjunction with International Labor Day, the Syndicate Coordination for Mauritanian Workers called on the Mauritanian government to expedite the review of workers’ wages and allowances, including an exceptional two-month salary to alleviate the impact of the pandemic on their living conditions.

In this context, the coordination committee called for the necessity of preparing for such crises by establishing a permanent disaster fund and taking into consideration the Corona crisis.

In a speech on the occasion of Labor Day, the coordinating chief, Khadija Jalu, said that it is expected to announce soon measures to rescue the informal sector workers who were affected by the pandemic.

Jalu confirmed that she had submitted a petition to the Ministry of Public Employment and Labor and modernization of the administration, which included four demand axes, mainly related to the wage scale, labor legislation, collective agreements, social protection and employment.

It is important to note that the trade union coordination of Mauritanian workers includes 29 trade union centers.
