International Federation of Journalists Launches “Global Initiative for Quality Journalism”

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has announced a global quality journalism initiative to save and protect jobs.

In a statement issued in conjunction with World Press Day, the Federation stated that media institutions will be affected by the pandemic, especially after registering multiple media institutions’ closure.

In its statement, IFJ proposed a stimulus plan to save the most affected media organizations by calling on governments to adhere to quality press by taking political and economic measures to ensure the sustainability of good media and protect professional journalists in the face of the spread of pure commercial media.

The statement recalled the pioneering role that journalists played in educating, sensitizing, and empowering citizens with a scientific material to prevent the pandemic, as reported.

It is noteworthy that IFJ was established in 1926 and is the largest international organization of journalists. It represents more than 600.000 journalists in 187 unions and societies in 146 countries around the world.
