The Tunisian government announced in a press conference the day before yesterday its intention to reduce the procedures of public quarantine and restore the production cycle by 50 %, starting May 4. This measure will cover several sectors such as public sector, construction activities, and a number of vital public facilities.
The government also announced that a number of field precautions will be imposed on operators to protect workers and employees from the risk of COVID-19.
The press conference also ended the ongoing debate in Tunisia about whether or not to continue the school year. It was emphasized through it that the current school year would end and the National Baccalaureate exam.
These procedures are not going to be enforced without follow-up or control measures. The Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT by its French Acronym) issued a firm preventive guide to secure all safety reasons for the various workers and workers, and the Tunisian government pledged to take it into consideration when issuing its preventive measures package.
With so much apprehension, 50 % of the Tunisian workforce are set to resume working on Monday in an atmosphere that some observers have described “coexistence imposed with the reality of the pandemic”.
