The Moroccan Labor Union Calls For Connecting Aid Procedures to Non-Layoffs

Mohamed Fayoum, a member of the Moroccan Labor Union team in the Chamber of Advisors, revealed that the Moroccan Labor Union that what was achieved through the production chain was almost destroyed by the mediators of the distribution chains, pointing out that even at the height of the pandemic, this network revealed the corruption, mismanagement and contempt of some employers to the precautionary measures meant to be enforced in the workplace, dozens of workers, male and female workers and their families were infected with the 19 COVID virus.

A member of the Federation team noted that those who did not implement government decisions are, in general, institutions that do not respect the laws, including workers’ rights, and that some people even defer to support decisions for the world of work, to carry out partial or retail employment, or to put official workers at idle and compensate them with daily workers.

The union also stressed the necessity of strict monitoring to link the use of support to non-layoffs.

The Union stressed as well that all of these practices contributed to creating new epidemiological clusters and thus negatively affected the Kingdom's national effort in combating the pandemic, and contributed to weakening the spirit of national solidarity, and demanded to intensify monitoring operations within contracting and commercial spaces, and to strictly deal with law violators.

They also pointed to the fact that 57% of construction contracts stopped working, and its dire economic and social consequences, and the specificity of the virus in the speed of its spreading, which imposes the need of a smooth gradual exit from the quarantine, after all conditions are met to protect the workplace and workers and their means of transportation are well equipped and protected.

The Union finally warned against any rush or pressure to immediate return.
