Egypt: 75% of Egyptian Workers Do Not Have Contracts

Reports revealed that 75% of workers in the private sector face the risk of layoffs at any time because of working without labor contracts guaranteeing their rights at a time when there are many fears about a wave of layoffs among the private sector workers due to the repercussions of the Corona crisis.

It is expected that layoffs will affect workers in sectors that are severely affected by the Corona crisis, such as tourism and construction.

Despite a series of proactive measures taken by many Egyptian private institutions such as reducing the wages of the months of March and April to maintain their financial budgets, the narrow prospects for the tourism and contracting sector are causing a lingering threat of reduction of the number of workers and even the closure of some institutions.

Egypt tops the list of North African countries with the number of people infected with Coronavirus with more than 10.000 people, followed by Algeria and Morocco with more than 6.000 people.
