The General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions has called on the government to develop a national policy and inspection system to enforce full compliance with occupational safety and health legislation and policies.
In a statement on the occasion of the International Day for Occupational Health and Safety, the Federation called on employers to ensure that the work environment is safe and healthy by committing to the implementation of Resolution No. 8 of 2013 that confirms the establishment of a committee concerned with occupational safety and health in each facility, provided that this committee includes workers’ representatives or the union among its members, the ministerial decision also guarantees the continuous evaluation of the risks in the facility and its branches, while obliging the employer to train and know all the workers while providing the required means of protection.
The Federation also stressed that workers are responsible for performing the work safely, protecting themselves, not putting others at risk, protecting their rights and participating in implementing preventive measures set by the employer, stressing also that the health and safety of the worker is a fundamental value that cannot be compromised under any circumstance and its priority cannot changed by shifting priorities and that the health and safety of the worker is invaluable.
