Tunisia: Health Institutions in Gabés Are Marginalized and Absent From All Support Programs

The Executive Office of the Regional Union for Labor in the governorate of Gabés expressed its strong dissatisfaction at the continued marginalization of the Ministry of Health for health institutions in the region, noting that this was clear after the recent field visit by the Minister of Health to the neighboring regions and Gabes region was absent in a clear indication of the continued policy of absenting the entity from the hospital health map and from all support programs in light of the announced state measures to address the Coronavirus crisis.

Al-Shaab newspaper reported that the regional executive office confirmed in a statement that the region and its economic institutions have for decades remained a major source of state revenues, yet they do not receive any support from the Ministry of Health despite the catastrophic environmental situation it is living with that are known to the ministry, with the continuing destruction of hospital infrastructure that does not rise to the requirements of the current status quo, and the daily registration of new pandemic infections, which it is resisting with the limited possibilities it possesses, as a result of the efforts of the people of the region and the civil society in the forefront of the regional labor union in the governorate to support health institutions in Gabés.

The Executive Office called on the Ministry of Health to fulfill its stated obligations to provide support to the region, especially since it has not provided anything to date and has not fulfilled its pledges, particularly the university hospital, expressing its dissatisfaction with this suspicious abandonment of the Ministry of Health to health institutions in the region of Gabes.
