The Path of Hell from the Horn of Africa to Yemen: Rape, Torture, Starvation of Migrants and Violation of Their Freedom

Migrant News website issued a report in which it spoke of the suffering of tens of thousands of migrants from East Africa heading to Yemen, hoping to reach Saudi Arabia and get a job there, through the most dangerous migration routes in the world.

The report highlighted that Djibouti is the first transit country for many migrants trying to reach Saudi Arabia via Yemen, most of whom come from Ethiopia and Somalia, who seek to escape poverty, most of them are young at the age of flowers.

The report revealed that arriving in Yemen through the Horn of Africa arranges for migrants to cross the ocean, and they are often transported on dilapidated boats, putting their lives at risk, and as soon as the long hours spent by migrants on these boats expire, trucks transport them by smugglers to compounds in the desert.

These smugglers use the most heinous torture methods against migrants, which is a flagrant violation of their freedom.

The report also revealed that smugglers imprisoned migrants in secret prisons, and then blackmailed their families to pay the price for release.

Yemeni authorities make no effort to stop such criminal activities, and they are subjected to daily torture either through beating or starvation, while women and girls are raped at the hands of their captors.

In the same context, a United Nations report released earlier this year revealed that more than 20 million people in Yemen are food insecure, including about 10 million people who suffer from hunger.
