Jordan: Migrant Workers Allowed to Return to Their Home Countries With Fees Excemption

The registration process started on Sunday, through a special platform for that and is scheduled to end on Monday 4/5/2020, where the Ministry will coordinate after completing the requests with the concerned authorities and the crisis management cell to enable these workers to travel, and in coordination with their countries, according to what the Minister of Labor announced during a press conference held last Saturday at the National Center for Crisis Management.

As for fines and fees, Al-Batayneh explained that migrant workers registered for the purpose of travel will be exempt from residence fines or any sums they incur in connection with work permit fees and other fees.

Whereas, the departures of registered workers will be in accordance with the highest standards of precautionary measures.

The number of migrant workers in Jordan amounts to one million, of whom 350.000 are workers holding work permits, while others do not have ones. Egyptian workers constitute the majority of these migrant workers.

Migrant workers also face difficult living conditions, in particular, because they have not been provided with any assistance or relief such as local workers, which the Jordanian government decided to provide them wit financial support through social security.
