Jordan: Disbursement of Infection Allowance to Sanitation Workers in Amman Municipality

The General Union of Municipal Workers and the Municipality of Amman complimented the decision of the Mayor of Amman, which was issued last Monday, to exchange an infection allowance of 30 dinars (42 dollars) for all workers operating in the face of the Corona pandemic, and increase the value in the same amount for those who already receive it.

The president of the union, Hammam Al-Maaytah, said in a press statement that this decision reflects the interest of the Amman Municipality in these workers and expressed the appreciation of the senior management for the great efforts they are making in light of the exceptional circumstances that we are going through.

Al-Maaytah added that stopping the work of the Secretariat Council’s decision issued at the end of last year to grant workers and employees an increase of 15 dinars (21 dollars), according to defence orders and cabinet decisions and replacing it with this decision, is a positive step in terms of improving workers’ salaries and achieving their living security and motivating them to put more effort and do their jobs to the fullest.

Al-Maaytah called on Jordanian workers to take care and to wear what the Secretariat provides from equipment and supplies, in order to preserve their personal safety, and ensure the continuity of work, pointing out that the union gives this axis attention and care, noting a training program to raise awareness and educate workers on the importance of occupational health and safety held in cooperation with the secretariat Amman.
