Iraq: Minister of Labor Calls on Labor Sectors to Pay the Wages Payment Obligations to Workers in Light of the Current Economic Conditions

On behalf of Abdul-Zaman, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs called on ministries and entities not affiliated with the Ministry, governorates, employers in the private sector and investment companies to pay wages to workers in view of the current economic conditions.

In press statements, the Minister indicated that the wages of their workers must be paid for the entire period of the curfew as exceptional circumstances and force majeure, according to the provisions of Article 72 of Labor Law No. 37 of 2015, which states that in the event (… the work is totally or partially suspended as a result of exceptional circumstances or force majeure, the employer must pay the workers wages for a period of up to (30) days.

He added that the duration of the prohibition counts to an actual service for the worker in accordance with Article 75 / Fifth of the same law. This article applies to (daily contracts and wages) working in ministries, governorates, and entities not related to a ministry, and the services of workers or those who are exempt from it may not be terminated except after the approval of the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs According to Article 42 of the Labor Law.

The minister called on workers to reach out through the hotline 07727643008 in the case of violations or any violation of workers’ rights to carry out legal measures against violators.
