In its latest report, Tamkeen Center for Legal Aid and Human Rights confirmed that there are severe pressures on domestic workers who are suffering from being deprived of their most basic needs.
The report highlighted that domestic workers in Jordan, most of whom hold the nationalities of the countries of the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, are also subjected to harsh pressures, pointing out that female workers work and live with the employer, or outside his home, while irregular women leave their workplaces.
Regular women workers complain of bad employers treatment during the crisis, exposing them to the burdens of serving large numbers of family members, and up to 16 hours of work per day without any breaks, despite the large amount of work they do, to meet the demands of continuous sterilization and cleaning.
As for irregular domestic female workers, they have no means to provide for their daily needs, and Tamkeen has been following up with more than 600 of them, complaining about their inability to provide for their needs. 30 of them confirmed their inability to provide their children’s needs, in addition to their inability to pay their housing rents, which exposes them to expulsion, according to the Tamkeen center’s report.
