The Ministry of Labor in Gaza announced yesterday, Saturday, that it began the data recording process for workers in sectors affected by the current Coronavirus crisis.
The ministry said in a statement that the state of emergency declared by the government to confront the emerging Coronavirus and the measures that it followed “had a great impact on some sectors of economic activity, whether directly or indirectly”.
“In an attempt of the Ministry of Labor’s to reduce the consequences of the state of emergency on the income level for many informal workers, with the aim of enhancing workers’ resilience during this critical period, we urge you to register your accurate data”, said representatives of the ministry in a statement.
President Mahmoud Abbas declared a state of emergency on March 5, after the discovery of the first COVID-19 infection in the Palestinian territories.
The United Nations had expected the Coronavirus pandemic to result in the loss of a large number of jobs, which could reach 25 million around the world.
