The Moroccan Association for Human Rights called on the Al-Manara branch in Marrakesh and all responsible authorities to immediately and urgently intervene to put an end to the suffering of African migrants in Marrakech, by enabling them with shelter, food, health monitor, and subject them to quarantine in conditions that safeguard their human dignity and their right to live in safety.
The Moroccan Association for Human Rights monitored, according to its statement, the presence of many migrants and sub-Saharan African migrants, who live and move in the form of groups that include women, children and men, on the side of the street adjacent to Mount Cleese, and that some of them are staying in the region without having particular shelter or a job that they can provide them with the minimum living conditions while the health emergency is in effect.
The association demanded an end to the suffering of migrants in this circumstance, based on the successive calls made by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the World Health Organization and the High Commissioner for Refugees and calling for more attention to be accorded to this segment of the population and the inability to control the pandemic is still persistent.
The association also highlighted the need to protect the rights of every individual to life and health, including migrants and refugees, without any discrimination and with the includion of irregular migrants.
The association stressed the necessity to evoke the threats that migrants are facing due to the spread of the Coronvirus among them and their contacts, and the necessity of protecting them, including irregular migrants, which will help in the practice to control the spread of the pandemic and strengthens guarantees of the right to health and life.
The association called upon the concerned authorities to expedite taking the necessary measures in line with the state’s human rights obligations regarding migration and asylum, and with official letters, and to find an urgent solution for sub-Saharan African migrants, in order to preserve their safety and security from the pandemic and their right to enjoy services including protection from COVID19 through Their inclusion in all social protection and health care schemes and their entitlement to conditions of human protection in this difficult circumstance, in order to guarantee their rights and activate the success of proper and preventive quarantine against the spread of the virus.
