Qatar Closes Roads Leading to the Industrial Zone Despite Talks About Potential Spread of Coronavirus Among Foreign Workers

According to media reports, Qatari authorities have closed a part of the industrial area from Street No. 1 to Street No. 32 for a period of two weeks, renewable from March 17, despite the talk about the spread of Corona virus among foreign workers inside the country.

Tens of thousands of migrant workers operate on the roads in the Doha Industrial Zone and consider it their home, renewing fears of a deadly epidemic among foreign workers in Qatar.

Although the Qatari regime has faced international condemnation against the background of its treatment of migrant workers, especially those involved in the huge construction projects linked to the 2022 World Cup, workers from poor countries such as Pakistan and Nepal often live in camps in the desert where they are transported to construction sites, but violations towards them continue even after the coronavirus crisis.

Qatar is the highest in the cases of coronavirus among the Gulf countries, where 470 cases of cases since last Friday. The Qatar Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs announced the suspension of Friday and group sermons in mosques, as part of Doha’s measures to confront the Coronavirus.
