“Al-Ghad” newspaper revealed the government’s readiness to soon announce a decision to allow workers in institutions and companies that are most affected by the repercussions of the Coronavirus crisis to benefit from the Social Security’s unemployment fund as well as other additional automatic funding from local sources and international donations such as grants and aid.
Al-Ghad also confirmed that the government decision to allow benefits from the unemployment fund for those who have lost their jobs and are unemployed, and the categories of workers in the informal sector such as daily workers and workers in free or irregular work, by calling them for voluntary participation in the guarantee and exempting them from paying the contributions fee until the end of the year.
This decision will also offer support for the wages of workers at the head of their work in troubled institutions, which can be determined in cooperation between the government and representatives of the private sector, such as chambers of industry and trade, through databases that can be provided through each of them.
According to the Social Security Law, unemployment insurance covers workers in private sector facilities and provides protection for the insured when they temporarily exit the labor market, where the insured is paid a three-month unemployment allowance if the number of his contributions to this insurance is less than (180) per subscription, and six months if it reaches (180) contributions or more.
It is noteworthy that the unemployment insurance income is considered a savings account for the insured and their rights are settled from this account when they are entitled to an old-age pension, a mandatory old-age pension, or an early retirement pension upon completion of the legal age (60 for a man and 55 for a woman), or a natural total disability pension. Permanent death, natural death pension, death salary arising from work injury, or a one-time compensation, so that the insured are credited the accumulated balance in their savings account consisting of deductions from their wages and contributions paid from the establishment plus.
