Wages of the Private Sector in Jordan: Between the Complaints of the Opponent and the Employer’s Inability to Fulfill its Obligations

Jordanian newspaper “Al-Ghad” revealed that employers in private companies did not adhere to the Ministry of Labor’s decision to include private institutions in the decision of the Council of Ministers to disable them for a period of two weeks, starting on Wednesday morning 3/18/2020 and this period would not be counted as part of employees’ vacation balance.

On the other hand, owners of private companies complained about their inability to pay the wages of their workers in the first place, because the decision to suspend their work has stalled, which means that they cannot achieve what helps them pay the wages to the workers, demanding their support by the government, and asserting that government measures to mitigate their sistuation did not contribute in a realistic way.

The newspaper pointed out that the ministry received, within four days, after activating this service 2836 complaints calls, including 376 complaints related to violations of government decisions by the private sector, 987 classification inquiries if the sector is inclusive of vacation, 501 questions about vacations and wages, and 51 inquiries about work Additional and 208 inquiries about flexible work, and 713 inquiries about the labor law.

“Received complaints will be followed up electronically through the Operations and Control Room within the Ministry of Labor, and necessary action will be taken to provide the service to citizens, meet their needs, answer their inquiries, and deal with them immediately and within a period that cannot be overlooked and monitored by the minister”, said the ministry in a recent statement.
