Shaher Saad, Secretary-General of the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions, warned against the serious health repercussions on the health of Palestinian workers who work inside “Israel” and were allowed to stay, due to the lack of necessary medical support for them by their employers.
Saad said in a press statement issued last Friday that “the lack of protection and a safe and healthy stay of workers is considered a disavowal by their employers and by the occupation authorities, who did not treat Palestinian workers on an equal basis as their “Israeli” or other foreigners counterparts .
“What indicate the continuing racist standards in their treatment, despite the imminent danger, which will be affecting everyone”, added Saad.
Saad also saad that “Israeli racism endangers the lives and safety of workers at the risk of contracting diseases, whether they are prevalent, or with the spreading Coronavirus in the Zionist occupation state, which is a deliberate racist measure that contradicts international norms related to worker health and safety, incompatible with international standards for worker welfare and with the basic rules of human rights”.
“These laws advocate the importance of conducting the necessary medical examinations for workers without distinction, including examining their places of residence, identifying workers who are most exposed to health risks, and organizing field visits to medical teams to work sites where they are present in the event of epidemics The high frequency of public health risk, compelling employers to communicate with emergency clinics, employing a nurse for every workplace where there are more than 500 workers and creating a medical record for them”, explained Saad.
Saad warned as well of the possibility of the occupation dealing with infected Palestinian workers as it dealt with the injured before the Corona pandemic; where they left those injured at military checkpoints and let them bleed to death without providing them with the necessary medical assistance.
