Almiloudi Almakhrak, Secretary-General of the Moroccan Labor Union, said that the government had to involve trade unions in the Economic Vigilance Committee, which oversees the arrangement of COVID-19 countering measures, which include employers’ representatives, while workers’ representatives were absented.
In a statement to “Hespress” news site, Almiloudi Almakhrak pointed out that the contracting companies have laid off dozens of workers during the last days due to the decline in production caused by the slow trade movement and restricting movement of the market.
ALmakhrak considered that the government would have avoided such problems if trade unions were included in the vigilance committee to deal with the Coronavirus.
He added that “the government requires that the employee be involved in the National Social Security Fund until February to benefit from the support, and this means that the unauthorized measure in the past month will not be benefitial, and we have asked the prime minister to fix this issue”.
On the other hand, in a meeting with the Prime Minister last Monday, trade unions expressed their annoyance at the decision to freeze the promotion for public and semi-public sector employees, “because it was a unilateral decision and only triggered an unneeded storm, said the secretary-general of the Moroccan Labor Union Pointing out that his union asked the PM to back off such decision.
The Prime Minister promised the trade unions to reconsider the issue of freezing the promotion of public and semi-public sector employees, after exceeding the current circumstance, by enabling the concerned employees to benefit from the promotion retroactively, but Almakharak considered that the freeze decision was “originally a wrong decision”.
They called on the government to avoid the mistakes that it made regarding managing measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus in the part related to the working class, saying that “the current circumstance requires uniting the efforts of all components of society, and we, as a trade union movement and the working class, are ready to work together in order to overcome this crisis with minimal losses”.
