The Supreme Council for Community Dialogue in the Workplace held a meeting chaired by the Minister of Manpower Mohammed Saafan, in the presence of representatives of the relevant ministries, business owners and workers to discuss the application of the Prime Minister’s decision to reduce the numbers of workers in the government sector and the public business sector as well a workers in the private sector, taking into account the nature of the private sector specifically, in order to limit the spread of the Corona virus, and to avoid an aggravation of the situation.
The Ministry of Manpower said in a statement: “This comes in light of what the world is going through – without exception – from the spread of the Corona virus (which causes COVID19). Countries are racing to take more precautionary measures, and in this context the Egyptian state is racing against time by taking many measures to protect its people from this virus, as well as the measures taken by the government to support sectors that may be affected economically by this new virus”.
The representative of the Federation of Egyptian Industries at this meeting revealed that the private sector is not subject to the decision issued by the Prime Minister, as it is impossible to look at the Egyptian industries from one perspective, and that the current action to be taken is to spread awareness of the necessary precautionary measures and to fully disclose any case of injury in any factory or company by all means, providing safety, hygiene and sterilization tools.
At the end of its session, the Council recommended reducing the number of workers in the private sector, similar to what was done in the government apparatus, taking into account vital services, and delegating the Federation of Industries to develop a vision commensurate with each industry, and specifying the mechanism through which those recommendations can be implemented, with a presentation of what has been reached by the council is based on the Prime Minister, as it was reported.
