The independent education unions complemented the decision of the President of the Republic, Abdul Majeed Tabun Al-Qadi, to temporarily suspend studies and and to start the spring break earlier, in an attempt to reduce the Corona virus spread.
However, they considered these measures incomplete because it was not accompanied by awareness-raising campaigns and so that students could identify the nature of the epidemic. They demanded an extension of the holiday.
According to “Al-Shorouk” newspaper, quoting the National Secretary in charge of information and communication with the Union of “Kanabast”, Masoud Boudiba, said that the early start of the spring break was imposed by the reality, but it was supposed to be accompanied by awareness campaigns in schools so that students get acquainted with the epidemic, given that the preventive measures are the only guarantor to prevent the spread of the virus, Boudeba pointed out that educational institutions have missed, through the decision to demobilize students, an opportunity to sensitize them, given that the existing cases are not a cause for concern, and that students are present in markets and neighborhoods, and they are vulnerable to infection.
The spokesman also stressed the need for the relevant authorities to take preventive measures, such as preventing trips to besiege the disease externally, as is the practice in other countries.
For his part, Blaamouri, head of the National Federation of Education Workers, considered the decision to stop the study positive and right, stressing that “Al-Sanabab” asked a week ago to provide a spring vacation as a precautionary measure that would protect our children from the virus, ruling out the impact of the decision on the educational attainment of students, while calling on the authorities that they should leave the door open for the extension of the holiday beyond April 5, in case it becomes necessary, in order to preserve the health and safety of everyone.
As for the National Syndicate of Education Workers, its National Secretary in charge of the organization, Kouider Yahyaoui, confirmed to Al-Shorouk newspaper that the suspension of the study was a positive step, calling for avoidance of gatherings to prevent the virus.
Yahyaoui also called on the authorities to do more to deliver the correct and accurate information to regular citizen, given that this matter is a matter of life or death.
