Tunisia Launches a Vigilance Unit to Monitor Health Conditions in Private Economic Institutions

In the context of taking further measures to prevent the repercussions of the Corona Virus at the level of workers in private sector institutions, on March 17 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Affairs, a working session was held with the social parties headed by Mr. Mohamed Habib El-Kachou, Minister of Social Affairs and in the presence of representatives of the Tunisian General Union (UGTT) and the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (the Employers’ Organization) agreed upon a number of measures to prevent coronavirus further spread.

An agreement was made to create a triple-alert vigilance unit at the level of the Ministry of Social Affairs to monitor the situation daily in private economic institutions and to suggest necessary measures in this regard.

It was also stressed that the timing of work in private establishments should be redistributed according to the status of each institution in order to avoid overcrowding in transportation, and work to consume the balance of annual holidays excluding remuneration.

The social parties also agreed to assign labor inspection services to conduct health inspections in private institutions and to suggest the necessary recommendations in the field to ensure the safety of workers in these institutions.
