Employees of the “Rabeh Baitat” international airport management in Annaba called for an immediate intervention by the director general of the east airports’ management in Constantine, to protect dozens of workers and employees.
According to “Al-Khobar”, the call came in response to the airport manager’s failure to provide them with the means and supplies to prevent the danger of the Corona epidemic. These means vary from masks, gloves and alcohol disinfectant which had been allocated to them by the general organization for airports’ management to its employees.
Many workers and employees noted that the director of Annaba International Airport was intransigent in responding to the demands of workers and employees to provide these supplies with health protection from the virus, especially since the airport periodically witnessed the arrival of hundreds of expatriate and local travellers heading towards the “Houari Boumedien” airport in Algiers, after The decision to cancel and suspend flights from Annaba airport towards European countries, especially those directed to Paris International Airport.
Workers and employees also demanded the General Directorate for the Administration of East Airports in Constantine to investigate the issue and inquire with the director of Annaba Airport about the destination of the provided medical supplies such as gloves and masks as well as the available quantities of alcoholic antiseptic.
According to them, they received information that the airport administration applied a decision from the manager to stock these quantities for the sake of other beneficiaries other than Airport operators and employees.
The same source also mentioned that the reason for such decision, which was firmly rejected by the majority of the airport’s staff, stems from the fact that the workers and employees of the airport management organization are not concerned with the preventive measure, even though most of them have regular contact with different groups arriving at the airport namely travellers and workers of various agencies operating at the airport from Security personnel, customs and employees of various domestic and international airlines.
Currently, most of the workers and employees of the airport management organization, who panicked in their offices located in Annaba Airport, for fear of being infected with the virus because of the administration’s refusal to grant them health protection, resorted to self-quarantine measures.
They avoided leaving their offices for long hours, which what they considered as an undeclared form of self-quarantine, demanding supplies of virus protection while reconsidering the holiday plan to reduce the size of the useless presence of dozens of employees to avoid their infection.
