In support of public hospitals and as a contribution to the national effort to confront the Corona pandemic, UGTT decided to donate a working day worth and it would be deposited in a special fund supervised by a committee composed of the Court of Accountability, the Information Access Authority, the contributing organizations, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health and the Anti-Corruption Authority.
UGTT also announced its contribution to the fund to combat corona and support public hospitals in the amount of 100.000 Dinars from its own budget, announcing the postponement of all planned strikes.
UGTT called as well in a statement to avoid panic and eagerness, and stressed the practice of caution and all measures of prevention and adherence to the instructions of health structures, calling on the ministries, departments and public and private institutions to provide all the requirements for prevention and protection from the infection.
They also called on the government to take serious measures in favor of workers in the private sector and other fragile sectors such as cafes, restaurants and others who are threatened with unemployment by guaranteeing their wages and securing their rights, including the continuation of social coverage during this crisis.
UGTT called on the government to take measures and arrangements in support of private institutions and their workers to alleviate the burdens of the crisis.
The workers union also called on the owners of the institutions to support social dialogue and consultation with the them to take the necessary decisions according to the specificities and based on the recommendations of the Joint Higher Committee that will be held this evening.
