The Italian campaign to contain the spread of the Corona virus has reached the migrants hosting center in the city of Bari in the south of the country, where the hashtag “I will stay at home” has been translated into many languages spoken by migrants in the mentioned center. The hashtag bears the name of the official decree that includes the procedures to confront the virus throughout Italy, and was put to force on March 10.
The foundation “Oxylim” runs the center, and this initiative came in the wake of the directives made by the official decree that expanded the procedures implemented in the areas where the disease is spreading, and that was limited to the “red areas” in northern Italy, which were most affected by the deadly Corona virus , To now cover all parts of the country with a population of 60 million.
The authorities at the center have changed the word “Casa” in the hashtag, which means “home” in the Italian language, to the word “Kara”, which means the place where the asylum seekers are hosted, and which forms a home for them when they arrived in Italy.
“Everything was organized even before the decree was issued on March 10, where they had information about procedures to contain the spread of the Corona virus in public places”, said Migli De Lorenzo, director of the center.
De Lorenzo added that the army and police had assisted workers, mediators and teachers at the center, and had spoken to migrants to make them aware of the need to avoid direct contact with others.
Workers wearing masks and gloves in the restaurant and places of worship divided the migrants into small groups, so that there were safe distances between them, as well as providing more hygiene services in order to maintain the health status.
The transport of migrants has been suspended over the past few weeks, and there are currently 495 migrants from 27 countries, mostly men from Nigeria, Pakistan, Mali and Somalia.
